AIMIM chief Asaduddin Al-Owaisi on Saturday demanded the arrest of detained Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman Nupur Sharma over her allegedly controversial remarks about the Prophet Muhammad. Al-Owaisi said the law of the country is supreme, and the government needs to take action under the law. The arrest of Nupur Sharma must first be carried out.
Speaking to the media in Bhuj, Gujarat, Owaisi said that there should be no violence in any democracy. It is the government’s responsibility not to allow violence. Appealing to the people, Al-Owaisi said that no one should indulge in violence over this issue nor should the police take the law into their own hands.

Oise claimed that the BJP did not take timely action against Sharma after Sharma’s remarks during a televised debate led to a major controversy. Al-Owaisi said: Nupur Sharma has not been arrested. According to the law, they should be arrested. He hasn’t been arrested for a long time. Why don’t you arrest him and take legal action against him? Who is stopping you?
There were protests in many states of the country on Friday after statements about the Prophet Muhammad. Protesters took to the streets in several states and cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Ub, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Kashmir. There were also reports of stone-throwing and arson incidents in some places.
