The BJP’s election preparations began with the announcement of Dhami’s name. The process of selecting a candidate for the congressional by-election Champawat is in its final stages. Following the observers’ report, the state president will now brainstorm with senior state leaders on the name of the candidate. The final decision will be made by the senior leadership level.

According to the sources, the Congress has so far secured the names of five contenders for the Champawat seat in the by-election. Himesh Kharkwal, a two-time former MLA and congressional candidate, is a naturally strong contender at the moment. However, Congress is also considering alternatives.
