Jailed NCP leader Anil Deshmukh has demanded his release on one-day bail to vote in the June 10 Rajya Sabha elections.

Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, who is imprisoned in a money laundering case, has requested his release on bail from the court for one day. National Congress Party leader Anil Deshmukh on Friday applied to a special court here. Anil Deshmukh was arrested by the emergency department in November last year in a money laundering case. Since then he is in prison.

Elections to fill the vacant Rajya Sabha seats will be held on June 10. In such a case, Anil Deshmukh asked the court to release him on bail for a day on June 10, citing the Rajya Sabha elections. Anil Deshmukh has requested in court that the applicant (Deshmukh) is a member of the Electoral College for electing members of the Rajya Sabha, being a permanent member of the AML Act.

Court requests response from ED

The court was told: “The applicant wishes to exercise his right to vote and to vote.” The app states that polling will be conducted within Vidhan Bhavan amid heavy deployment of police force and therefore there will be no shortage of police escorts. Special Judge K.K. Patil, who has heard the money laundering cases, on Friday directed the ED to submit its response to Deshmukh’s appeal and published the order for further hearing on June 6.
