Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik said the government’s promise to farmers in December last year has yet to be fulfilled. Satypal Malik, who advocated MSP i.e. Minimum Support Price, argued that the government should enact a law on MSP. Not only this, Satyapal Malik has also said that the farmers have finished their studies on the Delhi border but their agitation is still going on. Satyapal Malik was speaking in favor of the government even while agitating the peasants.

The government did not keep its promise

Speaking to reporters on Sunday evening, Satya Pal Malik said the government has not kept the promises it made to farmers yet. The government should pass a law on marine spatial planning to solve this problem. Besides, he said that the farmers had just finished their speculation but their agitation was still going on. It is noteworthy that in November 2020, thousands of farmers in Punjab and Haryana began protesting at the Delhi border against the agricultural laws passed by the central government. More than a year after the tuber protest, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was finally forced to withdraw all three laws, then the farmers ended their sit-in demonstration.

The government bowed to the farmers’ request

The farmers participating in the sit-in demanded the repeal of all three agricultural laws and the enactment of a law on agroforestry. Besides, there has been a demand from the farmers to withdraw the cases that have been registered against them and to compensate the families of the farmers who were killed during the protest. On December 9 last year, the government announced the repeal of all three laws, saying it would consider the rest of the farmers’ demands. After that, the United Farmers’ Organization Kisan Morcha (SKM) announced the end of the strike.

Nobody talks about the real issue

Apart from the issue of farmers, the governor of Meghalaya also raised the issue of high inflation and unemployment in the country and said that the country’s youth are roaming the streets without jobs. He said that except for the important issues, the non-core issues in the country are being discussed. On the work of the bulldozer in UP, Satyapal Malik said that it is not right to demolish the homes of the poor without giving time.
