A Delhi court on Tuesday allowed Punjab police to take gangster Lawrence Bishnoi to Punjab for questioning in a case registered to investigate the murder of Punjab singer Seydu Musiwala. The court granted both pretrial and mental detention to Lawrence Bishnoi after police called Bishnoy the main conspirator and said questioning him while in custody was necessary. During the hearing, Punjab Attorney General Anmol Ratan Sidhu assured the court that the state would bear “full responsibility” for the gang’s security.
Earlier, Punjab Police had submitted two requests – one for arrest and one for temporary pre-trial detention. The court initially authorized the arrest and later in the evening ordered the physical detention under which the Punjab Police could now take Lawrence Bishnoi to Punjab. “Punjab police will have around 50 policemen, 2 bulletproof cars and 12 vehicles on the way to clear the road. All roads will be videotaped,” the Punjab government lawyer told the duty judge of Patiala House Court. Seydoux said orders issued by the Supreme Court in such cases will be followed.

Lawrence Bishnoi’s lawyer Vishal Chopra said, “The court granted conditional pre-trial detention. Before his transfer, Punjab Police will undergo his medical examination, all security measures will be taken, he will be handcuffed and he will be bulletproof” he will be escorted in the car. He said: “From his transportation until his production in Court, the entire video will be filmed. The court has issued a detailed order that the Punjab Police will be solely responsible for his life and safety and no accident will happen to him.”
The letter’s motive revealed that the Bishnoi gang threatened Salman Khan
Bishnoi was brought before the Patiala House Court in Delhi after his detention with the Delhi Police in a case under the Arms Act ended. He is being held in Tihar prison and is facing trial in several states. His lawyer Vishal Chopra has disputed the Punjab police’s request for detention, saying there are fears he could be “removed” if he is temporarily detained. He said that hypothetical inquiries could be made. “We are against his physical pretrial detention in front of Punjab police. If necessary, they can arrest him in the case, but only in Delhi,” the lawyer said.
Shobdeep Singh alias Seidu Musiwala was shot dead on 29 May in Guwahark village of Mansa district in Punjab. Punjab police said on Tuesday the arrested suspect said Lawrence Bishnoi was behind the murder. According to Punjab Police, the motive was “to avenge the killing of Vikramjit Singh aka Vicki Maidokheda, with the alleged involvement of Shagundeep Singh, the manager of Shapdeep Singh (Sidhu Musiwala), who is now fleeing”.
