A police case was registered against him for this statement. Mumbai Police will now issue summons for them soon and invite them for questioning. Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey said this. Pandey said the Mumbai police will soon summon the arrested BJP spokesman Nupur Sharma and record her statement for her remarks during a televised debate on the Gianvapi case. He said that any necessary action will be taken in this regard.

Nupur Sharma had commented on the Prophet Muhammad during a televised debate and then the next day the Mumbai police registered a case in the matter. The case was raised by Irfan Sheikh, joint secretary of Raza Academy. The police officer said a case was registered against Nupur Sharma on the night of May 29. A case has been registered against Nupur Sharma under Section 295A of the IPC. Thus, he was accused of inciting religious hostility. Apart from that, a case was registered under Section 153A for the accusation of increasing hostility between two groups.
