Ravi Shastri, former head coach of India’s cricket team, believes Ravindra Jadega is not a ‘natural captain’ and appears to be a ‘fish without water’ during his tenure with Chennai Super Kings at IPL 2022. Shastri also sees MS Dhoni, who quit From his leading role at the start of the season but had to reclaim the captaincy after eight games, he should be given to the team next year if he is fit and ready to play. It must be the captain.
Speaking to Cricinfo, Ravi Shastri said, “He (Jadeja) is not a natural leader. He was not a leader at any level. So I felt it was a bit difficult for Jadeja to give leadership responsibility. People are ruling Jaddu. But that is not his fault. He was not a leader. Anywhere. He looked like a fish without water. It’s better to play as a player, because when it comes to players in all respects, he is in it. One of the best.”
“So let him focus only on cricket. (The decision to give him the captaincy) paid off by losing a few matches to CSK.” Of the four victories of the Chennai Super Kings so far this season, two have come under the leadership of Dhoni. Doni has captained the team in three games so far. CSK is currently ranked ninth and needs to win its remaining three matches with Chennai to boost its chances of a playoff. Even then, the defending champion CSK will have to rely on the results of other teams.
