The Center informs that the Supreme Court has decided to review and reconsider the Sedition Act Section 124A of IPC – India Hindi News


The central government said something important in the Supreme Court on Monday. The center said that it decided to review and investigate the provisions of the Sedition Law. The government appealed to the Supreme Court not to consider the matter until the government investigated. In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the central government said the validity of Section 124a of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on sedition will be examined and reconsidered.

In the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the government said that in the opinion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when the country completes 75 years of independence, there is a need to reconsider the Sedition Act passed during the period of slavery. The statement read: ‘The Government of India is aware of the objections raised to the Sedition Act. Sometimes questions about human rights arise, too. However, its goal must be to support the sovereignty and integrity of the country.

The affidavit further stated, “It is time to reconsider the provisions of Section 124A of the International Penal Code. The Center said that during the investigation process, there is an appeal to the Supreme Court not to waste time in verifying the applicability of this law. Let us inform that by submitting Several petitions in the Supreme Court were asked to investigate laws passed during the colonial period.The government submitted its response in the Supreme Court.

Earlier, the government also said that there is no need to revise this law. The central government has appealed to the Supreme Court to cancel the applications against the sedition law.
