The Department of Meteorology made this estimate using a broadband, multimodal forecast system developed by IITM, Pune.

The IITM chief expert said, “As per the forecast from May 5 to June 1, the monsoon may reach the coastal areas of Kerala any time after May 20. Earlier, in the forecast released on April 28 also, it was said that there will be an increase in rainfall in Kerala between April 19 and 25. It is clear from this that the monsoons can come earlier each year. Generally, the monsoon season starts from 1 June in the country, while in the northern states of India, the rainy season starts between 15 and 20 June.

However, in North India and Western states including Delhi – NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh, the sweltering heat and heat will continue for a few more days. About 15 days after the monsoon arrives in Kerala, the rains may begin in northern India. In such a situation, it can be assumed that June will not be as hot as May. Estimates will be released again by the Met Office before May 20, when the picture will be clearer. Let us tell you that in many states of the country including UP, Delhi, the scorching heat chaos continues and mercury stays constantly above 40°C.
