The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has stepped up investigation into the brutal murder of Kanhai Lal, a supporter of Nupur Sharma in Udaipur district of Rajasthan last month by beheading in broad daylight. On Tuesday, the National Intelligence Agency launched raids on nine places in Rajasthan. The agency also searched the premises of the suspects in Udaipur.
The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) claimed to have seized digital devices (cell phones, laptops, SIM cards) and other incriminating materials during the raids. The case relates to the murder of 47-year-old Kanhaya Lal Teli in his shop on Maldas Street in Udaipur on June 28.
Kanhai Lal was killed after he posted a social media post in support of Nupur Sharma – the former BJP leader who made controversial statements against the Prophet Muhammad.

The case was initially registered on 29 June at Dhanmandi Police Station in Udaipur. The National Intelligence Agency re-registered the case on June 29 and took over the investigation. The National Intelligence Agency has so far arrested seven people in connection with the killing of Kanhae Lal Talli.
The agency said on July 9 that it had arrested the seventh defendant, Farhad Muhammad Sheikh alias Babla, 31, from Udaipur. Farhad Muhammad was a close criminal partner of one of the main killers, Riad Attari, and was actively involved in the plot to kill Kanhaiya Lal.
