After defeat to Draupadi Mormo in the presidential election, Yashwant Sinha is now in the mood to put an end to political roles. He says he will not join any political party. Citing age, he said I am now 84 and should have seen what I would be able to do next. The former Federal Finance Minister said, ‘I have to see what role I will play (in public life), and how active I am. I’m 84 now, so those are the problems. I have to see how much time I can work. He said he would not join any other political party.

Sinha, the co-candidate of non-BJP parties including Congress and Trinamool Congress, had to face defeat at the hands of NDA candidate Drupadi Murmo in the recent presidential election. Sinha had resigned as National Vice President of Trinamool Congress prior to the presidential election. Yashwant Sinha said he has not yet decided what role he wants to play in public life. “I will remain independent and will not join any other party,” he said. When asked if he had been in contact with the leadership of Trinamol, Sinha replied, “No.”

He said no one spoke to me, and I spoke to no one. However, he certainly said that one of the leaders of the Transitional Military Council was in contact with him personally. The former finance minister said, ‘I have to see what role I am going to play (in public life), and how active I am. I’m 84 now, so those are the problems. I have to see how much time I can work. Sinha, a vocal critic of the BJP, joined Trinamool in March 2021, days before the West Bengal state assembly elections. He had separated from the BJP in 2018. However, his son Jayant Sinha is still a BJP member and Member of Parliament.
